Good night followed by stinging period

I had a good night and got up at 5:30am as I needed to pass water; I needed to pee.

I got to the bathroom, sat down and it was clear that I needed more than peeing. It was difficult and accompanied by a stinging feeling. Not sure what is causing it, but being it is now three days since the procedure, I am hoping that it may be the hemorrhoids starting to fall off. I am not sure though. I take comfort in my state changing – thinking ‘no pain no gain’ but who knows.

The stinging was crazy and I was unable to have bowel movement, when it happened it was a low quantity and the stinging got worse. I went to the toilet three times for bowel movement over the next four hours and that’s after trying laxatives, having a double espresso, some prune juice and a full glass of Fybogel – trust me; I REALLY needed the toilet. The stinging has now somewhat subsided after I placed heat on my backside and also just rested in bed – I even managed to snooze a bit, which helped.

I feel better now and is actually about to go for a run. Last time I went running was Wednesday morning before the procedure – its now Saturday and I feel I am ready. Let’s see I might regret it. I don’t think so.

Day 2 8pm

Its now been two days since my surgery. I went into surgery around 9am on Wed; its now Friday 8pm.

I feel a bit constipated tonight. I’ve taken a sachet of Fybogel and judging by previous experience it will soon start getting things moving. On that note, I have learned not to be too keen on bowel movements – there may not be anything there and this afternoon I ended up trying to go, but with very little to go. Don’t strain!

In summary, I feel good and its on the up. Hoping for an even greater day tomorrow, after a hopefully quiet and relaxing night.

Day 2 8pm

Afternoon and its good(ish)

OK, I made it to 2:45pm on the second day after my procedure/surgery. I’m feeling good.

I have had a couple of rushes to the toilet probably due to the laxatives meaning that things are ‘traveling thru the system’ faster than usual, and when I need to go; I REALLY need to go.

I have some strain in my bottom and I feel ‘full’ but not as much as I did before. I think my learning so far is to make sure I go when I feel go but not to strain. The relief when I empty my bowels is good and makes the straining less painful and irritating.

I keep taking ibuprofen and laxatives. Overall I feel really good.

Slept like a baby

Took 400mg ibuprofen, some overnight laxatives and a sleeping tablet last night and slept a full 7.5 hrs – that’s 25% more than I normally do. Feel great but my bottom is sore today and I had to rush to the toilet but didn’t yield much. I think some prune juice and a strong latte is the order. Let’s see if there is more to give; it feels like it.

I keep taking ibuprofen …feeling much, much better

Things are actually much better now. Whereas when I woke up this morning thought I would have to ask the consultant to flip off the bands I am now confident that I can go through this and it will be ok. I have managed to sit down for almost four hours for a conference call this afternoon and I feel ok. Still taking 400mg of ibuprofen every four hours and this probably helping. I am also taking laxatives and have started taking Fybogel – a fibre laxative product we got from Boots.

So all in all it is much better now.

Horrible night!

Had I known how much pain I would be in after the surgery, I am not sure I would have gone through with the surgery.

My surgeon, I think, forgot to tell me about laxatives – which made overnight and this morning pretty much hell (!!!). I had real difficult going to the toilet for bowel movements and the pain from the banding of the hemorrhoids and the removal of the two rectal fibroepithelial pylons. Prune juice and espresso coffee to the rescue. It was such a relief when I had bowel movement although scary as it was very bloody.

Bloody because the scars from the rectal fibroepithelial pylons haven’t healed yet. My surgeon / specialist consultant had warned me about that – apparently this can continue in ten days after surgery.

Horrible night!

Background

I thought it would be useful to give a little background to my case, allowing you to better understand the hemorrhoid procedure/surgery I went through and why.

I’m a 41 white European man living in the UK. I’m originally from Scandinavia but I’ve been living in the US and UK for most of my life. I’m looking after my body, I eat well, I exercise or lift weights every day (the nurse asked me yesterday if I was an athlete), I’m a nonsmoker and I don’t drink excessively. My weight is 78kg (172lbs / 12 stone) and I’m 192cm (6.3 foot).

I’ve suffered from internal hemorrhoids for about ten years and consulted my doctor regularly, he would give me creams, which would alleviate the condition but not resolve it. About a month ago I discussed with my doctor again and was referred to a specialist.

I met with the specialist, he examined me and booked me to come back for a Flexible Sigmoidoscopy. The Flexible Sigmoidoscopy was not great – it was painful but only for 20 minutes. And, agh – it included getting an enema – not nice!

The specialist consultant suggested banding my hemorrhoids and removing two rectal fibroepithelial pylons – I had the surgery yesterday.

Hello world!

Hello everyone,

I am starting this blog after going through hemorrhoid, or pile, procedure/surgery yesterday; about 24 hours ago. I have had a difficult night, which meant I googled loads of forums about hemorrhoids treatments and side effects etc. I didn’t find any step by step experience and thought it might help other people hence this blog. I plan to update over the next week or so to make this a reference (for what its worth) for other people going through the same in the future. I hope it helps.

Feel free to leave comments; I will try to answer where I can.
